Charles-François Gounod added the Ballet Music, in seven movements, to his opera Faust for the production at The Paris Opera (Opéra de Paris) 10 years after its première.
This transcription is for small band with slight simplification from the original orchestral score. The complete instrumentation is best for this transcription; however, it can be performed with as few as 13 players (in bold) with the condition that the the flute player doubles the piccolo and multiple percussion parts are covered by one player. This transcription is also suitable for a medium sized, or even large band for outdoor performance.
Parts No. 22–36 are optional. No. 24–35 are transposed from the original parts which are indicated in brackets, with or without modification.
The full score contains all seven movements. The parts are separated by movement for convenience when only selected movements are performed.
