Jacques Offenbach is well-known for a great number of his opéra bouffe. Orpheus in the Underworld is the most popular. The Austrian composer and conductor, Carl Binder, arranged an overture to Orpheus in the Underworld for the Vienna production in 1860. This overture, which this transcription is based on, is now a staple for any light classical concert.
This transcription is transposed a half-step up, and there are extensive solos for clarinet, oboe, euphonium or alto saxophone, and flute.
