March and Cortege of Bacchus (sometimes called March and Procession of Bacchus) by Léo Delibes is a popular classical piece that has been transcribed for band many times. Because of Delibes' gorgeous and glorious music with luxurious orchestration in the original, many band directors believe that this piece is suitable for only large bands. However, this transcription proves otherwise. Even with a small number of instruments and players, the glory of the original remains, because what's essential in this music is "elegance" not "power."
While this transcription is transposed a half step down from the original key, it's not otherwise simplified.
The parts in bold are necessary for this transcription; in other words, this transcription can be performed with as few as 15 players. This transcription is also suitable for a medium sized, or even large band for outdoor performance.
