The opera The Tale of Tsar Saltan (The Tale of Tsar Saltan, of His Son the Renowned and Mighty Bogatyr Prince Gvidon Saltanovich and of the Beautiful Princess-Swan) by Rimsky-Korsakov is based on the fairy-tale poem by Alexander Pushkin, and the libretto is by Vladimir Belsky. The suite is from the three orchestral introductions in the opera.
In some performances, the famous interlude, The Flight of the Bumblebee, in Act III, Scene 1, (KM 028) is also added to the suite by inserting it in between the second and the third movements.
Parts No. 37–53 are transposed from the original parts which are indicated in brackets, with or without modification.
